Join us for the next session of our book club to discuss (in German) the collection of columns Kummer aller Art by Mariana Leky. New members welcome!

About the book

'They all seem sparkling clean on the inside, only our insides looks like a complete mess' thinks kiosk owner Armin as he tries in vain to meditate successfully. And there is also disorder inside the other characters in these literary columns: Mrs. Wiese can no longer sleep, Mr. Pohl is permanently despondent, Lisa has her first heartbreak, Vadim's hands are shaking, Mrs. Schwerter urgently needs to relax, a sad patient has lost his herd, and psychoanalyst Ulrich is dealing with transience. Distress of all kinds plagues the people who maneuver their way through everyday life, sometimes better, sometimes worse. But distress also unites them, for example when problems are not solved on walks, but at least they are brought out into the open and into the light.

Clever, humorous and with a great sense of subtlety and absurdity, Mariana Leky portrays the lives of people who are not lacking in confidence, but rather the courage to recognise that life cannot be permanently avoided.
