As a prelude to its film programme Ukrainian Cinema: Contemporary Filmmaking from Ukraine, Goethe-Institut Hongkong is pleased to present, with support from Victoria Wang of Ivan the Kozak, the first traditional Ukrainian Restaurant in Hong Kong and Nazar Tabachyshyn, founder of the tango band Cafe 852, an evening of Ukrainian culture on September 6, 2022 (Tue) in the Goethe-Gallery and the Black Box Studio of the Institut. Thanks to Victoria Wang, visitors could try out traditional Ukrainian costumes and hairpieces for photo-taking and sharing on social media. Nazar Tabachyshyn, together with his band members of Cafe 852 Soujit Guitar and Farley Sangels (aka Joshua MacCluer) will perform live in the Goethe-Institut's Black Box Studio. In addition to Ukraininan and East European songs (music and singing), there will be sharings by musicians and music students in Ukraine via video projection in the Black Box Studio. The concert lasts for 45 mins. Limited seats, book your tickets now at art-mate.net.

COLLABORATION PARTNERS:

Victoria Wang is a Ukrainian raised in Hong Kong, speaks fluent Cantonese, English, Japanese and Russian. Further to helping manage her family restaurant Ivan the Kozak, Victoria is active in supporting activities that in turn support her beloved homes: Ukraine and Hong Kong.



Cafe 852 is Hong Kong's first Argentinian Tango band, performing live Tango, Milonga and Gypsy music. The first of its kind in Hong Kong, this trio is formed by Nazar Tabachyshyn on Accordian, Soujit Guitar on Guitar and Farley Sangels (aka Joshua MacCluer) on Bass and Trumpet.





Nazar Tabachyshyn was born in Zbarazh, Ukraine in 1989. In 2013 finished studying at Tchaikovsky Musical Academy of Ukraine. From 2014 based in Hong Kong. He is founder and member of Hong Kong tango band “Cafe 852” which performs Tango, Balcan folk and gypsy jazz music.
