Did you know that 2024 marks the 65th anniversary of the world's very first discotheque? Well, it wasn't in New York, but in the small German town of Aachen near to the Netherlands and Belgium. It was in fact in the local Scotch Klub where the orchestra that kept the audience dancing was replaced by a disc jockey. In 1959, DJ Heinrich, a young journalist, played popular records and had his own unconventional way of entertaining the dancing public... much to the delight of the audience. The world's first discotheque was born, so was the DJ profession!

To celebrate this momentous event in the history of music and entertainment, Goethe-Institut Hongkong invites you to experience the one and only Goethe Disco Night at our Disco and Bar transformed from the Goethe-Gallery and Black Box Studio, where our exhibitions normally take place!
