A brain-computer interface (BCI) allows humans to control devices using their minds. It is currently being used to allow paralysed people to regain control of their bodies. However, companies are competing to develop this technology for applications beyond medical use. What are its possible applications? What are the ethical challenges of such endeavours?
Speaker:
Moritz Grosse-Wentrup is head of the Neuroinformatics Research Group at the University of Vienna. He develops machine learning algorithms that allow severely paralyzed patients to communicate with a brain-computer interface..
Moderator:
Clarissa Ai Ling Lee is presently a fellow at the Käte Hamburger Kolleg Aachen: Cultures of Research at RWTH-Aachen University, working on a project that relates informational systems with social media and climate disasters.
