Hate criminality and disinformation are threats to democracy. And yet governmental measures and new laws may restrict freedom of opinion and the press, thus themselves becoming anti-democratic. The talk presents an overview of hate speech, fake news and social bots in Germany, and it outlines the solution approaches to date plus their associated problems.
