Protecting Personal Data and Privacy in Southeast Asia: Going Somewhere or Nowhere

The presentation focuses on situations of personal data and privacy protection in Southeast Asia. It details current situations concerning personal data and privacy protection in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states as well as on the ASEAN level itself. The talk examines policies related to personal data and privacy protection in the ASEAN member states, how the lack of such regulations put personal data and privacy at risk of being exploited, the need to have the regional personal data regulations in ASEAN comply with internationally accepted best practices, and the challenges for implementing such regulations.
