2000-2009

A new era begins when Goethe-Institut Jakarta moves from its original location to where the former German School was housed. Through the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation with the goal of structurally strengthening German language teaching in Indonesia, up to and including the first implementation of the National Language Olympics, the presence of the Goethe-Institut is increasingly gaining a broader impact in Indonesia.

2000

The fourth President of the Republic of Indonesia, Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur), received the German Islamic scholar Prof. Annemarie Schimmel, the German Ambassador Heinrich Seemann and the director of the Goethe-Institut Indonesia Dr. Peter Bumke at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta on 24 February.
