As every year, Eva, her husband and their children meet up with the rest of the extended family in Grandma Sophie's communal garden in the summer of 1976. Eva once again encounters her
annoying sister-in-law, while her husband tries to reconcile with his father. Meanwhile, Aunt Ilse is flirting with the neighbour.

During the encounter, none of the adults pay any attention to the children, who turn the garden into an adventure land and initially leave the safety of the property unnoticed. When the parents then receive news of a missing girl, the already tense atmosphere is completely shattered.
