Arthouse Cinema will return on July 27, 2024, at the GoetheHaus Jakarta, with the documentary “Herr Bachmann und seine Klasse” directed by Maria Speth.
One school class, twelve nations. But being from different backgrounds doesn't mean you can't follow the same path together – this is the story of teacher Dieter Bachmann and his class 6b at the Georg Büchner School in Stadtallendorf in the middle of Germany.
Teaching young adolescents between the ages of 12 and 14 can be a challenge anyway, especially when not everyone speaks the same language: As well as mastering the usual subject matter, language and cultural barriers are broken through art and music, different habits and rituals are shared and celebrated when reading, cooking and baking together.
But probably the biggest challenge for every young adult is the question of belonging and identity - where do I come from, where do I want to go? Mr. Bachmann supports everyone in their search for their own path with trust and appreciation.
The film screening will be followed by a discussion moderated by Gayatri Nadya.
