The foundation Stiftung Künstlerdorf Schöppingen invites international writers, visual artists, artists in the field of new media and interdisciplinary projects as well as composers.
Residencies at Schöppingen can last for up to 6 months, providing reclusiveness and space to explore artistic and project-based works.
The foundation is based in two listed farm buildings in the village ofSchöppingen, situated in western Münsterland (North Rhine-Westphalia), near the German-Dutch border. The cities of Münster (D) and Enschede (NL) can be reached within a 30mins drive, there are regular bus services to and from Münster.
The foundation’s stipends are worth €1,025 per month. Charges related to the use of apartments and studios have to be paid by the guest (up to c. €200 per month). In addition artists have access to workshop studios, event and exhibition spaces. The Künstlerdorf offers an open platform for collaboration among artists and encourages public readings, workshops and other events. In average six visual artists and six writers live and work simultaneously in Schöppingen.
The Künstlerdorf is financed by the NRW-Stiftung Natur – Heimat – Kultur, the Ministerium für Familie, Kinder, Jugend, Kultur und Sport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe, the Kreis Borken, the Gemeinde Schöppingen and the Förderverein Künstlerdorf Schöppingen. Additional funding is made available by the Kunststiftung NRW, the Landschaftsverband Rheinland and the foundation Stiftung Künstlerdorf Schöppingen.
