Torsten Schulz and John Banville

On 28 February 2022, authors Torsten Schulz and John Banville read from their work and discussed the essence of literature within the intercultural context of Germany@Home37 in the library at 37 Merrion Square.

Torsten Schulz, born in Berlin (East), is the author of award-winning feature films, director of documentaries, and professor of drama studies at the Babelsberg Film University. His debut novel Boxhagener Platz (A Square in East Berlin) was made into a film. The radio play adaptation received various awards. His novel Öl und Bienen was published in March 2022.

John Banville was born in Wexford in 1945. He was the literary editor of The Irish Times from 1988 to 1999. Among the awards he has received are the Man Booker Prize, the Franz Kafka Prize, the Irish PEN Award for Outstanding Achievement in Irish Literature, the Guardian Fiction Prize, and the Prince of Asturias Award.
