What are the technical requirements for online classes?

For an optimal learning experience, you need a Windows or Mac desktop computer or laptop. We do not recommend tablets, iPads, smartphones or other mobile equipment for this course, although it is possible to use them. You need a headset with microphone. If you use the built-in speakers and microphone on your laptop, it might cause an echo for the other participants in the online classrooms.

Can I change or cancel my course booking?

In case of cancellation, the following fees apply: a) Up to 4 weeks before beginning of course 10% of course fee, b) Up to 1 week before beginning of course 20% of course fee, c) Up to 1 day before beginning of course 30% of course fee, d) After course begins 100% of course fee. You should consider your personal commitments and circumstances before enrolment, as we regret that no fees are refundable once the course has started. We reserve the right to cancel classes with fewer than 10 students up to 24 hours before a course is due to start . In this case we will give you a full refund of the course fee paid. No other costs except the course fee will be refunded.

Will I get a certificate at the end of my class?

All students who attend at least 70% of their classes, and (for courses with an online component) complete at least 70% of their assignments will receive a certificate of participation for their course. Also, we prepare and encourage you to sign up for one of our official Goethe-Zertifikat exams, which will provide you with an internationally-recognised certificate to prove your language abilities. Our Online Group Course is for everyone, who wants to learn German independently and without losing the feeling of being part of a group. Reading, writing, speaking and listening – you will practice all four skills. The course takes place on the learning platform of the Goethe-Institut and in a virtual classroom.

How the course works!

Learning Platform
The Online Group Courses address various topics out of your everyday life, to familiarize you to important vocabulary and grammar. You learn with an interactive study program, comprising of videos, pictures, audios and texts. You mostly determine your study time individually but you will also be given the opportunity to work in groups. Essential overviews on grammar and vocabulary can be downloaded from the learning platform.

Support from your teacher
Your teacher corrects longer writing exercises and will provide detailed feedback on your writing. In case you have any queries, you can always contact the teacher via the forum or by email.

Online Live Sessions
You will meet your teacher and other group members every two weeks for a live-session, during which you will mainly practice speaking and applying the learnt structures. The live sessions will take place either in the evening or over the weekend.
