Blue Jewellery
Katharina Winkler
Based on true events, Blue Jewellery narrates the story of Filiz, a young Kurdish woman who lives in a village in Turkey. At the age of 15, she goes against the wishes of her family and marries Yunus, her great love. However, marriage leads to a spiral of violence and dependency, in which the mother-in-law, in particular, plays a large role. For freedom-loving Filiz, who dreams of a life in the West, and her three children, violence is part of the daily routine. Although Yunus does migrate with Filiz first to Germany and then to Austria, what she experiences there is a life lived in brutal captivity.
