Gözde Ju, by utilising various disciplines such as sewing, embroidery, found objects, video, and photography in her works, aims to highlight the reality and ambiguity of women's memories, pasts, and consciousness. At the same time, she seeks to make the roles women adopt in photographs, as well as concepts such as identity, gender, and memory, subjects of inquiry. By addressing themes of identity, belonging, memory, gender, feminism, culture, and nostalgia, she examines family relationships, the contradictions of forming a family, and societal gender roles in a documentary-like approach.
During her bangaloREsidency, Gözde Ju focuses on textile handicraft objects and production processes created by women. She investigates how the cultural change is reflected in handicrafts (such as napkins, tablecloths, cultural talismans) both as motifs and forms. She conducts extensive research on household objects produced by women in Bangalore using embroidery and textiles. The artist intends to trace the experiences of women, initiate dialogues and identify domestic cultural objects and materials, collect individual stories about the cultural heritage inherited from their mothers regarding handicrafts from different cultural ethnicity.
