6 renowned visual artists coming from different artistic backgrounds gift him his new dress!

You might have already noticed the blank and white “Buddy Bear” standing shyly in the corner of the entrance hall of the Goethe-Institut Pune. Why a bear?

Ever since 1280 the bear is the emblem and symbol of the capital Berlin. But why actually a bear and not any other animal? It is as simply as that: the german word for bear: “Bär” sounds very similar to Berlin. In the middle ages, “speaking” emblems were created to figuratively represent the sound of a word.
Since the art project “Buddy Bears” was initiated in 2001, about 2000 bears are decorating the streets of Berlin and several other cities worldwide. They represent tolerance, peace and freedom. Each of them is unique, carrying features of the respective country.

Now the time has come to transform our bear into a Punekar!

When    :  Sunday, the 14th January, 11am till 5pm
Where   :  Goethe-Institut Max Mueller Bhavan Pune

6 renowned visual arts artists coming from different artistic backgrounds will give the bear a new look and character. If you want to be a witness of this creation of a new Pune Buddybear, you are more than welcome to drop in and watch.
