In poetry, form, structure and meaning are intimately linked – this makes translating poetry an extremely difficult task. Academically, different approaches to translation hold ‘faithfulness’ or ‘exactness’ to the original text in high regard, and yet offer different strategies to preserve the original meaning.
In practice, we have the example of the PTP project, where the poets who, as writers of original texts and translators of poems, chose the road less travelled. Poets from three different languages explore the challenges of translating with Arunava Sinha, author and translator.
