Villa Kamogawa
The Villa Kamogawa scholarship offers artists and cultural practitioners from Germany the opportunity to live and create in Kyoto, western Japan, for three months.
Together with partner institutions in East Asia and Europe, Villa Kamogawa is expanding its residency programme to further promote and support networking among cultural practitioners and intercultural exchange. In addition to scholarships for cultural practitioners from Germany, regional and international participation will also be made available.
The diverse ideas, themes and backgrounds of the artists in ‘House of Ideas’ ensure that intercultural exchange begins at the table in the communal kitchen on the residence floor.
Artists' flats and studios
The artists' guest flats are located on the second floor of Villa Kamogawa, serving as both living spaces and studios.
The communal area features a Japanese-stlye lounge, a modern, fully equipped kitchen and a spacious terrace.
The interior design and furnishings are both technically and aesthetically aligned with the high standards of the host country.
Timeless Japanese design characterises the approximately 60 sqm private flats and contributes to the overall atmosphere of the floor.
Additionally, there is a separate studio room near the villa’s Japanese garden.
Artists with children
Artists with children of pre-school age can use one of the two family-friendly flats.
Artists with disabilities
Villa Kamogawa also expressly invites artists with disabilities. The villa has a wheelchair-accessible flat. The villa can be accessed via a ramp. The artist apartments are located on the first floor, and the lift is wide enough to access all floors. The metro stations near the villa (approx. 600 m on foot with a strip on the pavement marked for the blind) and public transport in Kyoto in general are largely well equipped for people with disabilities.
