Instead of aiding shipwrecked individuals, Frontex practices illegal pushbacks, finances the violent actions of the Libyan Coast Guard, and aggressively targets private maritime rescue missions that operate where the EU fails. All of this is documented in the media, yet for those who have not experienced this situation themselves, it remains incomprehensible: How can one deny help to hundreds of people in mortal danger and even threaten and criminalize the civilian rescuers?!
