Mark Römisch
Mark Römisch is a German photographer, actor and theater director. Born in Cologne in 1974, he received a degree in Drama followed by his M.A. in Modern German Literature (Film and Media Studies) and Communication Science (Photojournalism) from the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. Outside of his work as an actor, he has specialized in portrait and theater photography.
After moving to the US in 2011, Römisch participated in masterclasses with Joe McNally, Brian Smith and Robert Seale, attended classes at the New England School of Photography and expanded his professional portfolio to include architecture photography.
Römisch’s artistic work often reflects his fascination with the interaction of Man and Nature, current political and human rights issues as well as more abstract themes like the Visualization of Absence and Recalling of Place and Locality.
His work as an actor and theater director continuously influences the narrative and abstract visual language in his photographic works, which move between documentary and fictional approaches. His works have appeared in many solo and group exhibitions in North America, Europe and Japan. He received numerous stipends from the European Union Cultural Program (2007-2009) as well as the Merit Award from the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson VT (2015, 2016).
Mark Römisch lives in Boston and teaches at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
