Deutsch Lehren Lernen (DLL) is the Goethe-Institut's advanced training and professional development series for both aspiring and established German language teachers. The series consists of six core courses and three supplementary units, each lasting ten weeks. The Goethe-Institut USA offers the DLL program as a collaboration between the regions of North America and Northwest Europe, encompassing participants from 15+ countries.
In each online DLL course, teachers explore aspects of German language pedagogy, share experiences among colleagues, and develop a network for ongoing exchange. DLL courses are taught in German, by German language teaching experts.
Participants engage in course activities and forums to expand their teaching skills, and learn ideas and approaches that can be put directly into practice.
With an emphasis on reflective experiential learning, practical action and research, teachers gain new didactic knowledge and insight by observing their own and other teachers’ lessons and by recognizing and trying out new potential courses of action in the classroom.
Each course culminates with a Practical Exploration Project in which the new theoretical approaches of the DLL unit are reviewed and assessed in the teacher’s own teaching practice. The Practical Exploration Project initiates changes in the classroom and helps to increase the professionalism of teachers.
Explore the registration and credit options below to find out more about earning professional development hours or graduate-level credits that can be used toward a graduate-level certificate through the University of the Pacific or Master of Education through Colorado State University Pueblo.
