CINEMARX: The Young Karl Marx (Der junge Karl Marx)
CINEMARX: Films about Marx from the GDR to the Present Day
France, Germany, Belgium, 2017, 112 Min. Director: Raoul Peck
A historical drama telling a personal story about the beginnings of Marxist theory from the director of the Oscar-nominated documentary I Am Not Your Negro. Living in exile in Paris, the indebted 26-year-old Karl Marx befriends Friedrich Engels. Together they inspire one another to lay the theoretical foundation for a revolution.
Born in Haiti, Raoul Peck (b. 1953) studied in France, the USA and at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin. This equally multilateral drama depicts the rise of Marxist theory and the formation of The Communist Manifesto, one of the most influential texts of our time.
