At the February German Book Club meeting we will discuss Anna Seghers's Transit ( Aufbau, 1948, €12,00 ISBN: 978-3746635019).

Marseille in the Summer of 1940: Those persecuted and threatened by the Nazis gather at the edge of Europe.  They rush after visas, certificates, and stamps to escape to overseas exile. There paths cross in the chaos of the city, in cafes, and in the hallways of numerous authorities, and for a brief time their foreign lives become bound through hopes, dreams, and passions.
