Vietnam faces significant challenges to ensure sustainable, environmentally friendly development and a secure future for generations to come.
The effects of climate change are being felt by all; extreme weather events have recently destroyed entire areas; provinces are struggling with droughts and sea level rise. Social inequality is increasing, as the poorest in rural areas are the hardest hit. At the same time, the scope for Vietnamese civil society in this area is narrowing.
Together with local partners, the Goethe-Institut in Vietnam is tackling a wide range of issues and solutions relating to sustainability and using art, culture, language and educational programs to raise awareness of and open up new perspectives on sustainability. We initiate and promote artistic formats and projects that address ecological, social and economic sustainability and help to develop new concepts for sustainable societies for future generations.
It is an annual initiative of Goethe-Institut Hanoi to foster collaboration between civil society organizations (CSOs) in Vietnam and documentary filmmakers to tell stories of sustainable development through documentary footage.
The Goethe-Institut’s grant programme “Translations of German Books into Other Languages” supports non-German publishers in publishing German-language literature.
