Colonialism as a system of injustice and its consequences still shape our everyday lives and influence our social coexistence. Post-colonialism addresses the persistence and after-effects of patterns of colonial rule.
As questions relating to reappraisal of the past, as well as the lasting impact of colonialism in contemporary societal and cultural lives are prominent in both Vietnam and Germany, the Goethe-Institut strive to promote critical discourse on the impact of colonialism and the notion of a post-colonial world, reflecting our role as a European actor in international cultural exchange.
Through projects on decolonisation and post-colonialism, we want to promote and enable international dialogue on authentic pictures of history and culture in the colonised countries, and inspire and encourage the whole of society to discover more about history.
The Goethe-Institut’s grant programme “Translations of German Books into Other Languages” supports non-German publishers in publishing German-language literature.
