ABOUT A GIRL is a film about a girl who slowly gets back on her feet after a suicide attempt and learns to accept life with all its facets. What at first seems harsh and tends to be scary has been masterfully and sensitively made into a movie that can rightly be called a "comedy" - without making the serious subject ridiculous. Instead, it shows how powerless parents are, how friendships can form and (almost) break, and what other disasters lurk in the life of a 15-year-old. The central character, Charleen, is played by an outstanding Jasna Fritzi Bauer, who skillfully brings the drama to the screen without becoming a "drama queen," which is also true for the other characters in the film.
