We are happy to invite you to the next installment of the ArtHouse Cinema program on Tuesday, the 7th of June 2016. This time we will screen the film called Tabula Rasa directed by Adriyanto Dewo.
Scouted in a small island of Serui in Papua, nineteen year-old Hans leaves the orphanage he calls home for Jakarta to become a professional football player. Yet an accident prevents his childhood dream from becoming a reality. A failed suicide attempt brings him to an encounter with Mak, owner of a simple Padang restaurant.
A warm bowl of fish head curry and Mak’s compassion remind Hans of his hometown. His will to live is rekindled, and he asks to work in the restaurant. Hans’s presence provokes a strong refusal from Parmanto the cook and Natsir the waiter. Things become worse when Parmanto decides to quit and move to a rival restaurant located just across from Mak’s.
