Azhar and Frisca, two alumni of PASCH Indonesia, share how their acquired knowledge of German has provided them with extensive professional contacts and boosted their career opportunities in Indonesia.
Strong competition for career advancement in Indonesia is a challenge one has to face.
Up to 400,000 students complete their university studies throughout Indonesia every year. This requires each individual to bring special skills to the development of their career that set them apart from the competition. With the entry-level job opportunities becoming increasingly scarce, the ability to speak a foreign language, including German, can increase an applicant’s competitiveness.
Mastering a foreign language has become an essential requirement for employment, as nearly every industry seeks to engage with international business sectors and partners, particularly in the tourism industry. The number of tourists coming to Indonesia from abroad—especially from Germany—is increasing significantly from year to year. This is not likely to change, especially since German citizens are now getting a visa on arrival in Indonesia.
Moreover, the growing number of German emigrants working in Indonesia due to investment and bilateral cooperation projects suggests that proficiency in the German language could be a crucial factor in the professional success of Indonesians.
