Encountering the Strange

For the anthology 'Ek Ajnabi se Mulakat', the Centre of German Studies chose texts by German women writers into Hindi as these writers are relatively underrepresented when texts are chosen to be translated. The publication is the outcome of a translation project between the German Departments of the University of Wuppertal and the Jawaharlal Nehru University funded by the DAAD, initiated by Prof. Ursula Kocher. The translators are all M.A. and research students from the Centre of German Studies and they worked on these translations in cooperation with students from the University of Wuppertal. A number of workshops with experts, notably with the late Neelabh Ashk, were organized to discuss various aspects of translation and to seek their comments on the translation.
