About the Actant
© Suvani Suri Suvani is a Delhi based artist and researcher. Over the years, she has been a component of several trans-disciplinary practices, alternating between the roles of an artist, assembler, designer, researcher, sound-producer and educator. Her evolving interests and inter-media experiments have been implicitly tethered to a preoccupation with the auditory spectrum, encountering and speculating its multi-fold possibilities. She has been preoccupied with the peculiarities of the technological and sociopolitical processes that listening is embedded in, and the spectral qualities of sound that reveal certain slippages and gaps. The project On mining the ear for the nearly-but-not-quite-there takes on concerns around the various modalities, registers and politics of frequency frequently associated with disquiet, uncertainty, the uncanny, the weird and the eerie. Through a series of sonic happenings in the form of objects around the site and a public talk, what is proposed is a mutation in the limits of listening, as a movement through the perceptible processes of hearing towards an ‘uncanny listening’.
