The philosopher Hans Blumenberg spent many years collecting information and stories about the lion in literature. This material was published after his death. The lion, often also called the king of animals, has always played a special role in fables, fairy tales and myths. The book contains brief observations and thoughts on the appearance of lions in the works of Henri Rousseau, Thomas Mann and other writers.
