Correspondence consists of a collection of letters written between Ingeborg Bachmann and Paul Celan, two of the most important German-language poets of the 20th century. The letters were written between 1948 and 1961. Bachmann and Celan meet in Vienna in 1948, fall in love, and spend some time together as a couple. The relationship is interrupted with Celan’s marriage in 1952, revives when they happen to meet again in 1957, and is finally over in 1961. The volume also includes correspondence between Paul Celan and Max Frisch, and between Ingeborg Bachmann and Gisèle Celan-Lestrange.
