Sherko Fatah

(born 28.11.1964 in Berlin), author

Sherko Fatah has Iraqi-Kurdish roots and was a regular visitor to his father's home country from an early age. The family emigrated from the GDR, lived in Vienna and later in West Berlin where Sherko Fatah studied philosophy and art history. His debut novel "Im Grenzland" (i.e. in the borderland) was published in 2001. In his works the Western and Arab worlds encounter each other.  "Das dunkle Schiff" ("The Dark Ship", trans. by Martin Chalmers), was shortlisted for the German Book Prize in 2008. Sherko Fatah was awarded the Adelbert von Chamisso Prize (2015) and lives in Berlin.
