What are the technical requirements?

For an optimal learning experience, you need a Windows or Mac desktop computer or laptop. We do not recommend tablets, iPads, smartphones or other mobile equipment for this course, although it is possible to use them. You need a headset with microphone. If you use the built-in speakers and microphone on your laptop, it might cause an echo for the other participants in the online classrooms.

What would be the teaching language?

The medium of instruction will be German. English will be used if required.

How does one access the online course materials?

You will an e-mail at the beginning of the course with information on how to access the learning platform as well as Zoom. Course materials will be available from the day the course starts until two weeks after the course ends.Hereafter the online course is archived. An extension is not possible.

How will I receive a certificate on successful completion of the course?

If you complete 70% of the assignments on the learning platform and actively attend at least 70% of live sessions, you are eligible for a participation certificate.

Can I join an offline course at Goethe-Institut after completion of an online course and vice versa?

After completion of an offline course at Goethe-Institut, you can easily book an online course as follow-up course and vice versa. All courses at Goethe-Institut are compatibel and use the levels of the European Framework of Reference.

As engaging as a classroom course

You'd like to learn German in a group but are unable to go to a nearby Goethe-Institut? You travel a lot in your job and prefer not to be bound to a specific place and time? If so, we have a special offer for you! The Goethe-Instituts online group course "Deutsch Online" allows you to adapt your learning flexibly to your schedule and does not require you to be in any particular place. Rather than learning on your own, you are part of a small group of between 10 and 18 participants.

How the course works

Support from the teacher
Support by tutors for the entire duration of the course. They answer your queries, give you regular feedback and individual learning tips.

Cooperative assignments
A range of different cooperative assignments on the Goethe-Institut learning platform which are completed in collaboration with other course participants. Written assignments are send to the tutors for correction and feedback.

Online live lessons
The course consists of 8 virtual sittings, day and timing for which are decided mutually by the course participants and the tutor. Online meet-ups with your tutor and your study group allow you to practice speaking and oral expression and engage in dialogue.

Learning platform
You learn by using an interactive study programme comprising professional exercise materials and state-of-the-art methods to practice reading, writing, speaking and listening German.

Structure
This 16 weeks + a Zero-Week course helps you to learn the language effectively.
In the Zero-Week you will be informed in a virtual session about the course structure, the technical details and the help-functions on the learning platform.
