Navarasa by Shridevi Mahadevan is the fourth rehearsed reading in the series No Such Thing.
About the play:
Little Dhruv is on a roller coaster ride of feelings. Feelings that seem to rise up like a volcano from deep within and threaten to burst open. Feelings that the world around him can't seem to understand. How he finds the strength to deal with this inner adventure, accept himself and his world, while forging a bond with an unlikely ally his older sister, forms the crux of Navarasa.
The play explores the world of a sensitive child who is faced with expectations of constant toxic masculinity and gender stereotypes.
About the playwright:
Shridevi Mahadevan works with children in the area of experiential learning and uses theatre-in-education to facilitate better understanding of their world. All learning happens through activities and games, while matters of urgent importance and passion to express to the world, are devised into plays to be performed whenever a venue opens up. Currently she does this across a few schools in Bangalore as a consultant, along with weekend workshops exclusively for children. Her theatre experience includes classical, playback, improvisational, physical/body theatre styles and classical dance dramas for over 15 years.
She is also a yoga teacher and pursues her Masters in Yoga therapy. She has previously donned an engineer’s role in the software industry for a decade.
