Performance as Resistance

2016 saw the completion of Zubaan and IDRC’s Sexual Violence and Impunity (SVI) project, which culminated in the publishing of an anthology of volumes that go into depth about the nature of sexual violence and impunity in South Asia. In line with this, the Stepping Stones: Engaging with Youth in South Asia on Sexual Violence and Impunity and Body of Evidence projects, supported by IDRC and Goethe Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, endeavour to make this very body of work accessible and available to many through various creative mediums like theatre, art and slam poetry.

Over the last year and a half, these projects have been collaborating with theatre groups and artists in parts of India and Nepal (in collaboration with Panos South Asia) to develop various performances, films, etc. that help the findings of the SVI project transcend books and boundaries and reach various audiences on ground and open up spaces for discussion. Zubaan's Showcase Performance as Resistance is a culmination of this work, wherein attendees will be able to see the performances of these practitioners in one place over the course of two days.
