International Kolkata Book Fair 2024

The International Kolkata Book Fair has been recognized by International Publishers Association, Geneva as one of the largest book fairs in the world in terms of number of visitors. Publishers from different parts of the country and abroad regularly participate in this book fair which commences in the month of January every year. Booklovers are provided a chance to experience a huge variety of books from all around the world. Every year a country is invited to participate as the Focal Theme to showcase its literature and culture. The focus country in 2024 is the United Kingdom.

A global participation witnessed at the fair in terms of authors, artists and critics visiting the fair to exchange views and ideas. A number of seminars, symposia, lectures and debates featuring leading speakers are also organized during the fair.

The Goethe-Institut / Max Muller Bhavan Kolkata is present at the Book Fair this year to showcase the German language and culture and provide information about contemporary Germany. The Institute will present different programmes and activities like panel discussions, interactive reading sessions, workshops, and virtual reality shows.

The following events will be organized by the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata at the International Kolkata Book Fair 2024:

Workshops: KinderUni for school children
At the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan stall
Three 90-minutes sessions on 20th January from 1 pm, 3.30 pm and 5.30 pm
Two 90-minutes sessions on 22nd January from 1 pm and 3.30 pm.

Panel Discussion: KAFKAesque – Celebrating the Legacy of Franz Kafka
Speakers: Romit Roy, S V Raju Raman, Sakyajit Bhattacharya. Moderator: Anjum Katyal

Interaction with the author Ronya Othmann 
From 2.00 pm on 23 January 2024 at the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata stall.

Interactive reading and workshop by children’s author Inga Marie Ramcke
From 3.30 pm on 24th January at the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata stall in German.
From 5.45 pm on 25th January at the Open Stage in English.

Reading and interaction: Remembering Erich Kästner
Interactive reading session for school children in Bengali and English by Parthapratim Chattopadhyay and ThinkArts.
From 4.30 pm on 27th January at the Press Corner.
