In 2023, the Science Film Festival is the official supporting partner of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. The theme is a rallying call for the protection and revival of ecosystems all around the world. The UN Decade runs from 2021 through 2030, which is also the deadline for the Sustainable Development Goals and the timeline scientists have identified as the last chance to prevent catastrophic climate change. Ecosystem restoration means assisting in the recovery of ecosystems that have been degraded or destroyed, as well as conserving the ecosystems that are still intact.
The Science Film Festival brings science to your screen in ways that are entertaining, creative, exciting, and enriching! A celebration of science communication, the festival makes science accessible to a broad audience and demonstrates that science can be fun! In cooperation with local partners, it promotes science literacy and facilitates awareness of contemporary scientific, technological and environmental issues through international films and accompanying educational activities.
The Festival has grown significantly since its first edition in 2005, becoming the largest event of its kind worldwide.

After registering, you will receive a link to the films on Vimeo together with a password that will enable you to stream the films free of charge. Please note that the link will only be shared from October 1, 2023 until December 20, 2023. You are free to choose which films to screen depending on your course work or audience. In the meantime, the

In early October 2023, the Science Film Festival school program will kick-off with a one-day workshop event at the Goethe-Institut in Colombo. Together with this year’s partner organisation The Environmentalist Foundation of India, we will be organizing a program on leadership and resource management for school students. The opening event will be followed by a story telling and nature orientation program that presents and discusses this year’s Science Film Festival's film selection at schools across Sri Lanka. In each location, we will be organizing a beach/lake/pond clean up activity with school students and other volunteers.
