Pettah Interchange was a celebration of alternative music, art and culture, that took place annually between 2012 and 2016 in abandoned and neglected urban spaces in Colombo. Initiated by the Goethe-Institut and its electronic music web-platform Border Movement, the first edition of Pettah Interchange served as a showcase for the original material composed and recorded by musicians from Germany and the South Asian region during the “Sound Camp” artist residency that took place in the outskirts of the city in July 2012. In the following four years, the event evolved into one of Colombo's most celebrated alternative music events, having taken place each year within the walls of crumbling colonial buildings, grubby market-places and abandoned cinema halls. This conversation will look back at challenges faced, personal anecdotes and untold stories along the way of realizing these events.
