1. Enrolment requirements
1.1. Minimum age
1.1.1. All courses: 18 years
1.1.2. Individual courses can be arranged on request and will cost differently from the group courses.
1.2. A placement test is required for new learners with previous knowledge of German to establish the competency level of a participant and to place the participant in the course corresponding with the competence as per the results.
1.3. The following course modules are offered by the Goethe-Institut Kigali. The Goethe-Institut reserves its right not to offer certain modules of the courses A1, A2, B1 and B2, if there are insufficient numbers of participants or other circumstances justifying it.
1.4. Booking and Registration
1.4.1. Submission of filled enrolment form, proof of payment of FULL fees and a valid nationally recognised identity card is compulsory in order to complete the registration. Incomplete applications will be not be processed.
1.4.2. The aforementioned applications must be submitted as PDF-Document via email to:

1.4.4. Bookings take place on a first come, first served basis.
1.4.5. The Goethe-Institut will process completed booking applications and advise the participant of the course procedure via email.
1.5. A confirmed booking is not transferrable to another person.
1.6. Course fees are not refundable.
1.7. It is not possible to move from one class to another.
2. Terms of Payment / Fees
2.1. Payments to the official bank account are the only acceptable means of payment. A proof of payment must be provided.

2.2. Course fees:
2.2.1. Online courses: A1- A2: 210,000 RWF, B1- B2: 235,000 RWF
2.2.2. Individual and company courses can be organised on request and the fees will depend on the
number of participants.
2.2.3. Replacement of lost certificate on request is 25,000 RWF.
2.3. The full course fee is payable prior to enrolment and before commencement of tuition.
2.4. The course fee is inclusive of costs for learning materials that accompany the online courses.
2.5. Placement tests cost 35.000 RWF.
3. Cancellation, non-attendance and refunds
3.1. Cancellations are only possible with medical proof and must be submitted in writing and delivered to the Goethe-Institut language office or sent by email to
Language-kigali@goethe.de.
3.2. The date of cancellation shall be the date of receipt and must be 7 days prior to course begin.
3.2.1. A cancellation fee of 20% of the full course fee is applicable should the participant cancel 7 days prior to course begin BUT no refund will be possible for cancellation done less then 7 days to course begin.
3.2.2. The Participant acknowledges that the above cancellation conditions are reasonable.
3.3. Cancellation after commencement of a course:
3.3.1. No cancellations or refunds will be possible after the course has started.
3.3.2. Non-attendance of class will not result in a reduction of fees, nor will it absolve the participant from liability for the payment of fees or entitle him to alternative tuition.
3.4. Fees paid for group tuition cannot be converted to fees for individual tuition nor can they be carried over to the next term or to a different learning format.
4. Class size
4.1. The group size of an online/physical course is 10-18 course participants.
4.2. The Goethe-Institut reserves the right to change timetables, course commencement dates, postpone or cancel tuition in any course initially advertised and offered, based on insufficient demand or on any other reasonable explanation.
4.3. If the Goethe-Institut cancels the course or exam, the participant receives either a full refund of the course fees or a voucher equal to the amount paid by the participant for use of the same course or exam at a later date.
5. Course format and duration of courses
5.1. Online courses: 12 weeks and 9 teaching units per week for A1 and A2. 15 weeks and 9 teaching units per week for B1.
5.2. Individual and company tuition has to be taken within a reasonable period of time for noticeable progress and satisfactory learning results. This period of time and total teaching units will be agreed upon in a language consultation prior to the course. Tuition not taken within the prearranged time will fall away.
6. Assessment and progress
6.1. Continuous assessment is based on assignments (incl. Moodle) and tests. Participants who do not complete assignments and miss tests cannot be assessed.
6.2. Participants who have attended less than 70% of all online course meetings, completed less than 70% of their assignments (incl. Moodle) and missed tests will only be issued with confirmation of participation and will not be issued with an accredited participation certificate.
6.3. Participants who fail to qualify for the above mentioned accredited participation certificate will have to schedule an assessment test free of charge before continuing with the next course level.
6.4. A participation certificate is issued only after the course has ended.
6.5. Participants will only be eligible to progress to the next level course after successful completion of a level.

8. General
The Goethe-Institut reserves its right to change the terms and conditions for the next term or course date and inform the participant in writing.
9. Liability of the Goethe-Institut
9.1. The participant agrees that the Goethe-Institut and all its directors, employees, language instructors, volunteers, service providers, agents and representatives (hereinafter referred to as “the Indemnified Parties”) are not responsible for any death, illness, injury, loss or damage of any kind sustained by the participant which may arise from taking part in the course or exam and all related activities, caused in any manner whatsoever.
9.2. The participant waives any and all claims or actions that the participant may have against the Indemnified Parties as a result of the participant’s enrolment and participation in the course.
9.3. The participant indemnifies, releases and holds harmless the Indemnified Parties from any and all liability from any loss, damage, including consequential damage, injury or expenses that the participant may suffer as a result of the participant’s enrolment and participation in the course and all related activities due to any cause whatsoever.
9.4. The Goethe-Institut also accepts no liability for the cancellation of its services due to force majeure (e.g. natural disasters, fire, floods, war, official orders and all other circumstances beyond the control of the contractual parties).
10. Privacy Protection
10.1. The Goethe-Institut collects, processes and uses the personal data of the participant both for the purpose of fulfilling the agreement signed with the participant.
10.2. Personal data is used for purpose to issue certificates and is not shared with third parties.
