A German cultural masterpiece by Wim Wenders

Goethe-Institut Chicago

Dir. Wim Wenders
Germany, 1987
DVD, 128 min

Two angels in Berlin perch high above the city, listening to the thoughts of the city's human inhabitants and giving comfort to the distressed. Despite the angels' outstanding abilities and their immortality, Damiel, played by German film legend Bruno Ganz, longs to be human. When he falls in love with beautiful trapeze artist Marion, he is willing to give up his immortality and come back to earth to be with her.

Made not long before the fall of the Berlin Wall, this stunning tapestry of sounds and images forever made the name of director Wim Wenders synonymous with film art.
