USINE C is proud to welcome the Schaubühne, the legendary Berlin theater founded in 1962 by Peter Stein and directed since 1999 by Thomas Ostermeier. Today, the company is made up of some thirty of Germany's finest actors, alternating plays from the world theatre repertoire with contemporary works by internationally renowned authors. Every year, the Schaubühne presents its productions all over the world, stopping off at USINE C for 3 exceptional performances of HISTOIRE DE LA VIOLENCE.

Thomas Ostermeier has seized on Édouard Louis's second autobiographical novel, for which he is passionate, and has collaborated with its author on a theatrical adaptation. He visually translates the book's essential themes: the outpouring of rage and suffering, violence, social homophobia, visceral racism and the roots of evil. The French writer's tortured universe finds raw expression, without compromise or concession in its public display.

The production is a theatrical tour de force for a text with high emotional, political, intimate and public tension. Adapting Histoire de la violence, Édouard Louis' second disturbing documentary autofiction, for the theater and having four athletic, clownish and at the same time tragic actors portray more than ten characters was no easy task. But Thomas Ostermeier, head of the Berlin Schaubühne and theater master between two worlds - the tradition inherited from Brecht and the exploded postmodern narrative - doesn't like easy things. – Télérama
