Is there a female gaze in art?

Goethe-Institut Hongkong is pleased to present, in cooperation with the MalerinnenNetzWerk Berlin-Leipzig, the exhibition THE FEMALE GAZE in German Contemporary Painting and Sculpture from March 21 to May 13, 2023 in the Goethe-Gallery and Black Box Studio. The exhibition is one of the programme highlights of the 60th anniversary of the Goethe-Institut in Hong Kong in 2023.

Five female painters and one sculptress from Berlin and Leipzig have been invited to share their gaze with us. In their paintings and sculptures, they explore body images and sensuality, address relationships and memories, and question traditional as well as contemporary gender roles.

The artists are: Laura Eckert, Tobia König, Verena Landau, Eva Schwab, Tanja Selzer and Miriam Vlaming.

The 26 selected artworks are strong, as diverse as they are humorous, and result in a kaleidoscope of female identities that confidently confronts the gaze of our world.
