First time in Indonesia
Science Film Festival
The Science Film Festival (SFF) was held in Indonesia for the first time to promote science education among young people in a fun way, especially through films. The Goethe-Institut Indonesien organized the SFF with Paramadina University, UNESCO in cooperation with the Indonesian National Commission for UNESCO, the German Embassy, the French Embassy, Bayer Indonesia and the blitzmegaplex. In 2010, the SFF took on the topic of "Biodiversity" and only took place in Jakarta. 12,426 young people took part in film screenings and science experiments during this event, which took place from 15-30 November.

The first German film festival in Indonesia
German Cinema
German Cinema, the first German film festival in Indonesia, takes place. The first edition of German Cinema showed ten new German films and ran from 14-25 January in Jakarta, Makassar, Medan, Surabaya and Yogyakarta. The Oscar winner Florian Gallenberger was present at the opening of the German cinema in the Epicentrum XXI, Jakarta. Florian's John Rabe (2009) became the festival's opening film.

Raden Saleh
The Raden Saleh exhibition held at the National Gallery of Indonesia from 3-17 June 2012 was attended by more than 20,000 people. The Goethe-Institut and the German Embassy in Jakarta, in cooperation with the National Gallery of Indonesia, presented the works of this mid-18th century artist.
The Raden Saleh works on display were mainly from the collections of the presidential palaces in Jakarta and Bogor, the National Gallery of Indonesia, and private museums. This exhibition was organized by the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Boediono attended, as well as others such as the third President of the Republic of Indonesia, B.J. Habibie and the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Fauzi Bowo on 2 June.

Visit of the German Foreign Minister
Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier
Federal Foreign Minister Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited the Goethe-Institut Jakarta and was the guest of honour at the PASCH Festival on 2 November 2014. More than 200 students from PASCH partner schools participated in this event.

"A Prince for All Seasons: Diponegoro in the Memory of the Nation, from Raden Saleh to the Present“
The exhibition “A Prince for All Seasons: Diponegoro in the Memory of the Nation, from Raden Saleh to the Present” was held from 6 February to 8 March 2015 at the National Gallery of Indonesia. This exhibition was a continuation of the 2012 Raden Saleh exhibition and attempted to show the extraordinary history of Diponegoro (1785-1855) as portrayed by classical, contemporary and well-known painters.
The Goethe-Institut Indonesien initiated and coordinated this historical exhibition in cooperation with the National Gallery of Indonesia, Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture, German Embassy in Indonesia, Arsari Djojohadikusumo Foundation, Erasmus Huis, Antara Journalistic Photo Gallery, and Paramadina University.

The German Season
Under the motto "Together Towards the Future"
The "German Season” under the motto "Together Towards the Future" took place on the initiative of the Federal Foreign Office in Germany in cooperation between the Goethe-Institut Indonesien, German Embassy in Jakarta, and EKONID. The festival took place in several major Indonesian cities for three months from 5 September to celebrate the longstanding German-Indonesian friendship. Fritz Lang's silent film Metropolis was shown at the opening of the festival in Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta, accompanied by the Babelsberg Film Orchestra.

Artist collective ruangrupa
Towards documenta 15
Goethe-Institut Jakarta and ruangrupa hosted “Conversation about documenta” on 8 July 2019 at GoetheHaus Jakarta to introduce documenta—an international exhibition of contemporary art based in Kassel, Germany—to the public in Indonesia. This event commemorates the appointment of the art collective ruangrupa as artistic director of documenta 15, which takes place from 18 June to 25 September 2022. ruangrupa made history by being the first art collective to curate an iteration of documenta—as the only artistic director from Asia to date for this grand event.

Library innovation
The "BibToGo" App
As part of its focus on digital transformation, the library of Goethe-Institut Jakarta developed the digital library card “BibToGo”. This user-friendly app was launched in 2019 and is now used in 50 Goethe-Institutes worldwide. The “BibToGo” app has already received recognition far beyond Goethe-Institut: it was presented with the Zukunftsgestalter in Bibliotheken 2021 (Future Shapers in Libraries 2021) prize for outstanding innovations in librarianship during the annual German Library Day event.

German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier
State Visit
German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited Indonesia from 15 to 17 June in the framework of an official visit on the occasion of 70 years of German-Indonesian diplomatic relations. The three-day itinerary also included an exchange about the PASCH initiative and a visit to the Jogja National Museum in Yogyakarta, where the German President was introduced to the Monumen Antroposen project supported by the Goethe-Institut.
