Mia Yu is a Beijing-based filmmaker, curator and art historian. She is the initiator of Anthropocene x Extractive Frontier, a research platform that uses Northeast China (a.k.a. Manchuria) as a point of departure to explore the divergent narratives of the Anthropocene by engaging eco-imageries, alternative cosmologies, colonial histories, Socialist experiences and embodied eco-poetics. Under this framework, she has curated a number of projects at Goethe Institut Beijing, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, OCAT Biennale 2021 and Jimei x Arles International Photo Festival 2020. Her films have been exhibited at Goethe-Institut, Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, Harvard University, Times Art Center Berlin, Museo Reina Sofía and Asia Society. She has published with Frieze, ARTMargins, Afterall, Oxford Art Review, Artforum and Yishu.
