The German List

Alexander Kluge and the painter and photographer Gerhard Richter collaborated on this book in December 2009. Kluge provided a series of December stories from different years to accompany Richter’s 39 photographs of the winter landscape in the Engadine. Many are set in wartime, such as the one from 22 December 1943, in which a family rejoices to learn that their father is coming home from the war at Christmas on leave.
