James Reidel

James Reidel is a poet, translator, and biographer. He works as a freelance editor and writer who was educated at the University of Cincinnati (European History), Columbia University (Creative Writing), and Rutgers University (English Literature). In 2007, his translation of Thomas Bernhard’s poems, “In Hora Mortis/Under the Iron of the Moon” (Princeton University Press, 2006) was selected as a finalist for the PEN Translation Prize. In 2010, he won a National Endowment for the Art grant to translate Franz Werfel’s “Eine Blaßblaue Frauenschrift” (“Pale Blue Ink in a Lady’s Hand”, Godine, 2012). He has published collections of his own poetry as well as a biography of the American poet Weldon Kees. In 2013, he served as a James Merrill House fellow.
