beuys on/off is a cross-disciplinary art project organised by the Goethe Institut Tokyo to commemorate the centenary of German artist Joseph Beuys. One of the most influential yet controversial artists of the latter half of the twentieth century, Beuys started his career as an artist after military service in World War II, and proactively engaged with issues of education, ecology, economy and politics through his expanded idea of art against the backdrop of the upheavals of the Cold War.

What if Beuys Were Alive in the Internet Age?

beuys on/off is a cross-disciplinary art project organised by the Goethe Institut Tokyo to commemorate the centenary of German artist Joseph Beuys. Eurasia

The EURASIA program is a critical continuation of Joseph Beuys' concept of Eurasia, planning a network that connects artists and artisans from central Asia. Beuys incorporated the traditional motifs of Eurasian culture into his own work and performances, creating a vision of reconciliation between East and West.

Economy

Center for Reproductive Labor creates the popular education and resource platform on reproductive labor. Using texts and illustrations in an accessible Q&A style on Instagram, we look into reproductive labor from the perspectives of migration, the struggle of domestic workers, socialist feminism, colonialism, and capitalism.

Education

‘Summer School of Unlearning’ is a workshop about unlearning. Unlearning is questioning how we learn and what we learn. Unlearning is to resist the atrocities of systemic oppression, violence formalized in bureaucracies of knowledge production.

Ecology

In 1969 Josef Beuys made the installation "Das Rudel" ("The Pack") a composition symbolising a "survival kit" for extreme situations: a sled, felt, fat and a light source are enough to escape the cold and not to die in the frost. But what kind of survival kit would offer artists today in conditions of global warming, pandemic and big games?

Constructing a network through Beuys/voice mail

Sounds of Eurasia – Constructing a network through Beuys/voice mail is an international collaborative project that aims to visualize the process of building an artist network across Asia. The primary initiator of contact between artists will be vinyl records with voice messages sent via post followed by online video meetings and artistic works posted on the project website.

高橋瑞希

日本のキュレーター。現在は香港のCHAT（Centre for Heritage, Arts and Textile）でエグゼクティブディレクター兼チーフキュレーターを務める。インタビューやアーカイブ調査を通じて、ジェンダーポリティクスや、資本主義、産業化、芸術的実践の相関関係をテーマに多くの学際的なキュラトリアルプロジェクトを実現してきた。2009年、水戸芸術館現代美術センター「Eight Days: Beuys in Japan」展の企画を担当。この展覧会では、再発見された1984年のヨーゼフ・ボイス来日のドキュメンタリー映像を通し、ボイスが日本の観客に与えた影響について調査した。

シン・ジェミン

韓国出身。ビジュアルアーツ領域の展覧会コーディネーターおよびキュレーターとしてキャリアをスタートさせる。キュレーターとしては、韓国人アーティストE Hyunjoonの個展「V.U.C.A」を企画し、2016年にはソウル美術館の「Seoul Babel」展にArchive BOMMのゲストキュレーターとして参加した。2017〜2019年までSIDance（ソウル国際ダンスフェスティバル）企画部門プロデューサーとして勤務。アーツ・カウンシル・コリアから新進プロデューサーの一人に選ばれ、2020年2月開催の国際フォーラム「Dance Dramaturges in Production」を企画。現在、チェ・テユンのスタジオのプロジェクトマネージャーとして勤務。

Jung-Yeon Ma

Born in 1980, Seoul. She graduated from Graduate School of Film and New Media, Tokyo University of the Arts with her doctoral dissertation on social implications of art and media technologies, which was later published as A Critical History of Media Art in Japan, (Artes Publishing, 2014). Her recent publications include Seiko Mikami: A Critical Reader (NTT Publishing, 2019: co-editor), “Power of Language” (2019), “Exhibition Spaces Emitting Light and Sound: Contemporary Art and Image Media” (2019) and Paik-Abe Correspondence (Nam June Paik Art Center, 2018: co-translator). She is currently working as associate professor at Kansai University.

ドミニク・チェン

1981年東京生まれ、フランス国籍、博士（情報学）。2017年より早稲田大学文化構想学部准教授。2004年以降、日本においてクリエイティブ・コモンズライセンスを推進してきた。2008年、東京でITスタートアップ企業Dividualを立ち上げ、数多くのウェブサービスやスマートフォンアプリを開発してきた。第22回ミラノ・トリエンナーレ「Broken Nature」展（2019年3月1日〜9月1日）、あいちトリエンナーレ2019「Tame Y/Our Passion」展（2019年8月1日〜10月14日）にアート作品、デザインプロダクトを出展。21_21 DESIGN SIGHTで開催された「トランスレーションズ展−『わかりあえなさ』をわかりあおう」展（2020年10月〜2021年6月）の展示ディレクターを務める。
オープンソースとフリーカルチャー、ネオ・サイバネティクス、情報哲学について数冊の本を執筆、ポジティブ・コンピューティング、リアリティ・マイニング、技術的特異点についての本の翻訳も行う。

セルビ・ジュマイェヴァ

セルビは現在、Strelka Instituteのテラフォーミング（天体を人間が住めるように改造すること）シンクタンクと、気候変動への対応と実行可能なplanetarity（惑星思考）のための共同設計研究に取り組む。Artcom Platformで環境と文化プログラムのための戦略を開発し、またEU内のCivil Society Regional Reference Group——中央アジアとアフガニスタンを対象とした国連スポットライトイニシアティブ地域プログラムの一員でもある。UNiTEキルギスタンと共同した斬新な反暴力キャンペーンなど、20年間近くジェンダーについての地域的なイニシアチブを作り、主導してきた。セルビは、トルクメニスタンの親族の日々の物語、思い出、工芸品の収集とキュレーションにも取り組む。中央アジアの日常を捉えた彼女のドキュメンタリー作品は、中央アジア全域のバザールの生態系、トイと呼ばれる婚礼を始めとする祝祭の習慣、現代の食べ物、民俗芸術の世界を行き来している。

Center for Reproductive Labor (CRL)

再生産労働は、あらゆる形態の生命を維持するために最も本質的な労働であるという認識のもと、Center for Reproductive Laborは、再生産労働の価値を再構築することに取り組んでいる。メンバーの幅広い経験と専門知識を活かし、社会主義フェミニストや移民家事労働者の運動に貢献するための創造的かつ実践的なスキルと、政治を発展させることを目的とする。構成メンバーには、デザイン、リサーチ、理論を教えること、ケアと解放を日常的に実践することを並行して展開できるようなスペースを育むラナ・ガバミ、料理し食事を共有しながら、世界各地でスペースやコレクティブを共同設立する須川咲子、制度的な枠組みの内外で、横断的批評のためのスペースを切り拓くローザ・テ・ベルデ、アイルランド系中国人のアクティビストで、再生産労働と反帝国主義に焦点を当てた研究で社会学研究科を卒業したばかり。東アジアに社会正義を実現するためエネルギーを注ぎ、このような関心をきっかけにCRLの活動に参加したアイリーン・エがいる。

チェ・テユン

チェ・テユン（1982年、カリフォルニア州サンマテオ生まれ）は、科学、テクノロジー、社会、人間関係の詩学を探求する。コンピュータープログラミング、ドローイング、執筆を行い、多くの場合、仲間のアーティスト、専門家、コミュニティメンバーと共同プロジェクトを実施する。

チェのプロジェクト、参加型ワークショップ、パフォーマンス、インスタレーションは、ニューミュージアム、ホイットニー美術館、ロサンゼルス・カウンティ美術館、スミソニアン協会アジア太平洋アメリカンセンター、Van Alen Institute、M+ミュージアムなどで発表されてきた。上海ビエンナーレ、ソウル・メディアシティ・ビエンナーレ、イスタンブール・デザイン・ビエンナーレ、ヴェネチア・ビエンナーレ国際建築展2021に参加。Eyebeam Art and Technology Center、Lower Manhattan Cultural Council、Frank-Ratchye Studio for Creative Inquiry、Pioneer Works、NEW INC、Data and Society、Centre for Heritage, Arts and Textileなどでのアーティスト・イン・レジデンスプログラムに参加。Public School New York、オキュパイ大学、Triple Canopy Publication Intensiveなど、オルタナティブな教育にも貢献。ニューヨーク大学、パーソンズ美術大学で教鞭をとり、ニューヨークでSchool for Poetic Computationを共同設立した。

グリナラ・カスマリエワ、ムラトベック・ジュマリエフ

グリナラ・カスマリエワ、ムラトベック・ジュマリエフは、キルギスタンのビシュケクを拠点とするアーティストデュオ。これまで数多くの国際展やビエンナーレに参加し、ビシュケク国際現代美術展（2005〜2008年）や、都市の緑地帯の問題に特化したパブリックアートフェスティバルであるArt Prospect-Bishkek（2017〜2018年）でキュレーションを行う。ArtEast NGO（2002年〜）、現代美術学校プロジェクト（2009〜2019年）の設立者でもある。この2つのプロジェクトは、動的な社会的関与のためのスペースを育み、またここでの教育の成功により、2012年の光州ビエンナーレ参加を果たした。プリンスクラウス賞（アムステルダム、2010年）受賞、 Artes Mundi 4、Wales International Visual Art Exhibition and Prize（2010年）にノミネート。

dj sniff

ターンテーブル奏者、DJ、キュレーター。2012年までアムステルダムのSTEIM電子楽器スタジオでリサーチ、キュレーション、レジデンシープログラムを取りまとめるアーティスティック・ディレクターとして多くのコンサートプログラムおよびアーティストプロジェクトを企画・制作。2012年香港に移住。2017年まで香港城市大學創意媒體學院で客員助教授。2014年からは大友良英、ユエン・チーワイとともにアジアの実験的な音楽家たちを集めるアジアン・ミーティング・フェスティバル（AMF）のコ・ディレクターを務め、日本、シンガポール、インドネシア、マレーシア、台湾などで開催。現在は京都精華大学で教えている。
