Open Call for Artistic Research Proposals
The Goethe-Institut HCMC invites artists and artist collectives to submit research proposals for an artistic research trip in Central and Southern Vietnam, focusing on the intersections of ecology, climate, and human adaptation.
About the Research Opportunity
Ecology, weather, and climate have always been integral in the lifestyles and cultures of many peoples across Vietnam. Vietnam’s landscapes—from the Mekong Delta to its rapidly urbanizing cities—are undergoing profound ecological shifts due to rising sea levels, extreme weather patterns, and environmental degradation.
As part of a new initiative by the Goethe-Institut Ho Chi Minh City, this research grant aims to support artists interested in investigating how communities are impacted by these changes, as well as how indigenous knowledge systems, cultural practices, and everyday interactions with climate and weather have shaped ways of living, adapting, and creating.
Proposals may engage with (but are not limited to) the following themes:
Note:
This call is open to individual artists, artist duos, and collectives from all disciplines with an interest in research-based practice. Though not obligated to, artists are encouraged to collaborate with professionals such as scientists, journalists, and academics, or engage with specific communities and local individuals to deepen their research and artistic inquiry.
Support Provided

We look forward to receiving your proposals!
