Jan Wagner and Eva Bourke
On 16 June 2016, poet and author Jan Wagner and writer and translator Eva Bourke were invited to read at Germany@Home.
Jan Wagner, born in Hamburg in 1971, has lived in Berlin since 1995. He is a poet, translator of English-language poetry (including works by Charles Simic, James Tate, Simon Armitage, Matthew Sweeney, Jo Shapcott and Robin Robertson) and essayist and was co-editor of the international literary magazine ‘Die Aussenseite des Elementes’ until 2003. The book Regentonnenvariationen (2014) was the first poetry book to win the Leipzig Book Fair Prize.
Eva Bourke was born in Germany but has lived for much of her life in Galway. She studied German Literature and History of Art at the University of Munich. She has had five volumes of her own work published, as well as publications as editor and translator, of Jan Wagner's poems for example. She is a member of Aosdána, which honours artists whose work has made an outstanding contribution to the creative arts in Ireland, and assists members in devoting their energies fully to their art practice.
