Gold & Coal
Ethnictro Music Education Centre (Indonesia), Daniel Kötter/Sarah Israel (Germany), Studio Plesungan Solo/Melati Suryodarmo (Indonesia), Residenz Schauspiel Leipzig (Germany)
Gold & Coal is an Indonesian-German collaboration that explores how mining effects geography, economy and the re-distribution of people by linking the context of the world largest copper and gold mine in Timika, West Papua, with the post-industrial landscapes in the former GDR brown coal region around Leipzig. By confronting and overlapping their different media the artists will translate this narrative into a spatial theatrical experience. The project will be developed and questions related to it in the course of a number of research trips, workshops and residencies in Java, West Papua and Germany 2019. The resulting performance/film/concert will be presented in Yogyakarta, Jayapura as well as in Leipzig.
